New Back Great pink flowers - but what on earth are they?

    4 responses

These flowers were on a large bushy shrub growing in the shade of a big paperbark. I haven’t the first clue as to what they are.
Dodgy image quality because photographed with mobile phone. But the curious 10-petalled arrangement is still clear.

New Back What is this tree?

    3 responses

I was photographing my neighbour (she’s in the first photo!) and it occurred to me that I don’t recognise the tree that’s growing over our boundary.
It’s over 5m tall, and has funny round fruit.

New Back What is this plant?

    4 responses

The leaves remind me of impatiens (I labelled them as such on Flickr) but I haven’t ever seen such a flower before.
The seeds came in a seed mix packet (Rockery mix or something), and in an obsessive-compulsive fit I separated them all into seed shapes and planted them separately.
The seed packet didn’t list the flower types or anything useful like that, just a pretty picture on the front. Ah well, when you only ever buy things on super-sale, you come to expect this kind of thing!

    Pansies Blooming: Feeling better again

    Overcast 24°C / 75°F 1 comment

The yellow pansy (or viola? what’s the difference?) stopped flowering altogether when I moved. Now it’s clearly much happier.
I love the little white moustaches. In time for Movember?!

    Cherry Tomato Ripening: Yummy!!

    Overcast 24°C / 75°F 1 comment 2 thumbs up!

My little round green friends are becoming swollen red friends – full of juicy, sugary, salty, tomatoey goodness! Unfortunately the little green tomato didn’t make the move, but these guys came from flowers borne not long after. 1st generation local tomatoes, one might say.

    Strawberries Run away! run away!

    Sunny 29°C / 84°F 3 comments

One strawberry plant is, I think, trying to tell me it’s unhappy in its pot. It hasn’t produced fruit or even flowers. But it has just started to grow the fastest moving runner I have ever seen. I think it’s growing at about an inch a day. I wonder if I should leave it on and give it a chance to grow baby strawberry plants free from the confines of the pot. On the other hand I have also read that runners should be removed to improve the strawberry crop (which, let’s face it, is a dismal 0 for this plant). For now, my indecision means the runner stays attached, but not yet lying over bare soil.

    Sweet Morinda Blooming: Sweet smell

    Overcast 28°C / 82°F

These flowers have a very subtle fragrance, in contrast to the banks of chinese jasmine that are growing around the street. It’s sweet, but so mild I can’t put a name to a similar fragrance.

Pink Daisies Blooming: Running out of steam

    Overcast 28°C / 82°F

This little marguerite has put on a bright and brave show, coming through some extraordinary weather this year, and a house move too. Now it’s starting to slow, probably in preparation for a rest over the hot summer (makes sense if you consider that marguerites originate from the Canary Islands).

    Carnations Blooming: A new colour!

    Overcast 28°C / 82°F 1 comment 1 thumbs up!

I thought I had just three plants: deep red, light yellow and white with pink fringe. Unless the yellow flowering plant has suddenly decided to change bloom colour, I now discover I have a bright red flowering plant too!
