Tomato 'Roma' Harvesting: biggest harvest yet- 3 1/2 lbs!
I have been harvesting off the romas for a few weeks now and have made tomato cream sauce with them twice now. I have been wanting to try a roasted tomato sauce and was planning to do that this weekend.
Today I had a huge harvest, 3 1/2 lbs, so I’m changing the plan just slightly and I’m going to make a basic tomato sauce from “Cucina Del Sol” with the older romas and then use the rest of the ones I picked today to make the roasted sauce tomorrow. I think we will be eating pasta with tomato sauce tomorrow night!

Vegetable harvest for 7/8/08
Today was my biggest harvest of heirlooms so far. I picked 5 Cherokee Puple, leaving me with only some baby Cherokee Purples, and 2 German Pinks. I have a few more German Pinks that are close to ripe. I also got 1 1/4 pound of romas today, which puts me closer to the 3 lbs I need to try out one of the sauce recipes that was posted here on the message boards. I also got a handful of cherry tomatoes and we once again had the roasted cherry tomato dish for dinner.
Tomorrow is my day to work evenings, so I’m going to check all my plants well and probably do some additional tying up. I also need to get some more of the good bamboo stakes, as I’m currently using all the ones I own.

Sweet Pepper 'Purple Beauty' Harvesting: harvested another small pepper
I harvested another small pepper today and there are several more even smaller peppers that look like they should be ripe soon. This pepper did not have any bad spots, so I’m happy to have escaped my mystery pepper problem at least for one pepper.

Tomato 'Pink Accordion' Fruiting: I have a bunch of babies now
I was looking at ‘Pink Accordion’ today and the good news is that it has at least five babies. The bad news is that it is already taller than its stake. I’m going to have to see if I can track down an 8’ stake for it.

Tomato 'Henderson's Ponderosa' Fruiting: first baby tomato
I saw the first baby tomato on ‘Ponderosa’ the other day. It has grown a little bit from when I first saw it alreay. This is great, but right now ‘Ponderosa’ doesn’t have much in the way of flowers. I do hope I get more than one tomato off this plant! Of course, since this particular seedling had sort of a rough start, I’m happy to be this far along.

Vegetable 4th of July Harvest
I got another decent harvest off my tomatoes this morning and left some that should be ready in another few days. Only one roma today, but I’m expecting more soon and then I can try to make sauce again. I got 2 very pink ‘German Pink’ today, along with 4 ‘Cherokee Purple’ of varying sizes. Both the Cherokee and German had some cracking, but other than that they looked good. I also got another handful of cherry tomatoes.
This afternoon I got almst 2 cups of basil leaves, so it is pesta time again!

Vegetable Today's harvest
Yes, I’m officially addicted to photographing and posting photos of each days harvest! Last year I had 4 plants, 2 of which barely produced, so this year I’m really happy at the harvests I’m getting. We are rolling in cherry tomatoes this year, so much so that my mom has taken some in to work twice now. Tonight we had the roasted cherry tomato pasta dish again, 2nd time in a week!
Today’s haul was mostly cherries, with a few romas and 3 German Pinks.
