A nice surprise today..the new Rhodies are blooming
I purchased 3 rhodies this spring just packed with buds. They were advertised to be mid season bloomers which I needed for late May in my Entry beds.
Well today they started to open. OMG they look like orchids!!! I’m so glad I bought 3 of the same plant. It really draws the eye around the fenced area the way I have them placed and gives the yard a feeling of “unity”.
I sure hope the rains don’t beat down the flowers before those hundreds of blooms open. It’s going to be a real show in about a week
The flowers at first glance remind me of panda faces….......I think I have pandas on the brain lately!!
The other 4 images I took in San Francisco this weekend at Fisherman’s Wharf. Oh what a sight the poppies were and the exotics were at the turn of the century Conservatory
Have a safe and fun Memorial Day weekend

A SUCCESSFUL DAY AT THE NURSERY
Well I had intended to garden all day today but the rain returned to drown out the fun. Oh well, the plants are happy I suppose.
Early this morning however I went out to the Farmer’s market to look at what was new and beautiful ….then over to Fred Meyers garden center . OMG.. Freddies had a huge sale on a brand new shipment of perennials and annuals. I couldn’t resist purchasing some goodies for my giant purple pots . The other pix are of the overall color palette which includes the purple I will picture later
BLACK WHITE ORANGE PURPLE COBALT CHARTREUSE
Yep…bright and cheery and way over the top. My studio window looks out onto this garden and it really is a nice happy place to work. My home interior is the same basic colors so it feels like bringing the indoors…out
I’ll update with photos of the newly planted pots as soon as it stops raining long enough for me to plant them up.
I purchased stunning orange pansies with plum whiskers Deep blue trailing lobelia Shocking orange huge flowered tuberous begonias Tall violet new Guinea impatiens white impatiens
Should be a shocker to say the least. My orange umbrella arrived for my bistro table today too..Woo HOo!!!
Have a wonderful weekend Sandra

FINALLY A NON RAINY DAY TO WORK OUTSIDE
It was almost 70 today in PDX and I was outside the minute the sun came up with my coffee and my 2 chows…my little garden helpers!!
Got a lot accomplished including sorting a lot of old pots to be recycled as well as potting up my nasturtium seeds. I like to use 2 gallon black pots for the nasturtiums and tuck them in bare spots over the summer when I need a spot of color. I planted 18 pots!
The images show some of the fun visitors I had today. THe spider matched the euphorbia blooms perfectly. I didnt’ even know he was there until he moved. Meg is one of my chows and loves her new front yard mats…”chess anyone”!!!
The stellar Jay loves the dried corn on the cob and picks off all the kernels in 2 or 3 visits. THe chickadee was watching her babies feed at the feeder in my species Japanese maple. This tree is about 25 feet tall now and in full bloom. Made for a colorfu picture

Hello all…wow what a wonderful site. I found Folia via a Flickr group I’m on and am so excited!! This is such a perfect venue for gardeners to find one another. Will update soon.
For now here are a few images from my garden today.
