everything grows my new arbor
my husband was cleaning up around the sheds and was going to put these stands on the scrap pile when i had an idea… i could use them for a new arbor if i give them a new coat of white paint and position them in my everything grows garden across from each other and lay beams or poles on the tops i will have a arbor for the entrance to my garden these stands were once used for our fuel tanks for farm equipment, i want to plant a vine with big leaves on it i think or maybe a wisteria vine not sure about that yet any suggestions what kind of vine, i want something fast growing and good looking no pests and not invasive,on the other hand i like the flowers of the wisteria but not sure about its invasive habits. i already have the trumpet vine but it is so invasive it keeps rooting everywhere it touches the ground and i have found it does not climb very well. then there is the silver lace vine but i will have to research that one and i have a very tiny porclin vine but it does not have very large leaves at least not yet i would like to see a mature one, guess i will go to the garden centres to see whats available in my zone, i have some time yet i dont have the stands painted or in the garden yet.

everything grows tips and tidbits (2)
Attract ladybugs to your garden and flower beds with marrigolds, cucumbers, peppers and tomatoes, lady bugs eat aphids, mealy bugs , spider mites, scale, thrips and white flies. ladybugs hibernate in dead leaves or other organic mulch for the winter months.
nitrogen is a garden must, it is present in the air, but plants must take it up through the soil, the best organic sources of nitrogen are manure, blood meal, fish emulsion and soy bean meal, good sources found in your back yard are leaf mold and grass clippings.
apply an organic nitrogen source in late fall it will break down slowly and be available in the soil by planting time the following year
adding too much nitrogen will cause excessive foliage growth and few blooms and it makes plants grow too fast making them more vulnerable to pests, disease and stress. rain and frequent watering will eventually wash nitrogen away. Plants with not enough nitrogen look stunted and spindly and have pale foliage that turns yellow and dies.
wasps, put mothballs inside nylon stockings and put wherever bats and wasps are a problem they cant stand the smell and will stay away, hmmm i have not tried this yet hope it works. also it is supposed to work for snakes too “yey”
Bees- if u are stung by a bee put a copper penny on the sting for 15 minutes it takes away the poison ruducing the sting and itch, the older the penny is the better because they have more copper in them. to get the stinger out put wet bread on it and cover with a bandage the stinger will be in the bread in the morning.
The roots are the most important part of the plant. ideally there should be enough roots that holds the soil around the rootball, and it should slide easily out of the pot. you can plant without disturbing the roots, a mildly root bound plant can simply mean u have a robust grower. however if there is a solid wall of roots circling around the rootball beware, planted like that the roots will continue to grow in circles and can strangle the plant. Gererally speaking the tighter the rootball the more it needs to be disturbed. shake the roots out to get rid of the soil and gently tease them apart if u break some roots cut them off. if the roots are a solid mass that u cannot tease apart take a sharp knife and make several vertical cuts around the rootball and make an X across the bottom of it. new roots will grow from the cut ends. set plant in the planting hole as deep as it was planted in pot and spread out the roots as much as u can. backfill with soil and water treat with care for a while.
Planting garlic among roses helps repel aphids
June is one of the worst months for moving perennial, most are ready to bloom and do not like being moved its too stressful. to help reduce stress pick the coolest time of day and be prepared to water often. trim back any blooms and seed heads the plant needs to concentrate its energy on rebuilding its roots and settling in.
during the summer always water close to the ground, water sprinkled on the leaves invites sunburn and can be an invite for fungus and moulds.
Rosemary is the traditional herb of memory, set a pot on your desk and feel instantly more productive.
To get more vegetables in your or your childs diet, puree veggies and add to spaghetti sauce, soup or soupstock.
shred vegetables and add to ground meat for healthier burgers, meatloafs, and meat balls, i tried this and the burgers are juicier.
Add some shredded veggies when browning ground meat for tacos
thicken gravies and sauces with pureed veggies (be sure to steam or cook them first)
Add 1/2 cup carrot puree to your favourite brownie mix or chocolate cake recipee
make fruit flavoured syrup for breakfast by blending fresh or frozen blueberries, strawberries, raspberries or whatever your favourites are with a small amount of honey use on pancakes or waffles or toast, tried this too ‘yum’
make popsicles with 100% fruit juice, pureed fruit mixed with a bit of honey and juice
Save water after u have finished boiling vegs, use in soups, stews, sauces, gravies. You can pour the vegetable water into ice cube trays or other small plastic dishes and freeze when frozen remove from trays and store in plastic freezer bag when u need to use just knock bag if cubes are froze together. the water contains vitamines from the boiled vegs, or u can drink the cooled waterThis entry is about Flowerlady's everything grows garden

variegated sedum tips and tidbits
- do not put tulips and daffodils in the same container when bringing in the house for a bouquet, daffodil sap poisons the water causing other flowers to keel over.
- use a handful of dog hair for keeping slugs away from developing leaves. spread it over the ground at the base of a plant
- nothing makes a garden seem smaller than seeing the boundaries
- plant a potato 4-6 inches from a rose bush to get rid of aphids, it also makes rose bush appear fuller
- plant chives or garlic near roses to repel aphids
- make a dried wreath from artemisia – crimson king – take long stems when flexible and put in a pail to hold the shape while drying
- sprinkle wood ash around hosta to keep slugs away
- crush egg shells that u have let sit to dry with a rolling pin and sprinkle around hosta to deter slugs
- make pretty ice cubes for summer punch by freezing ice cube trays 3/4 full of water and freeze just enough that pansy flower which u have washed will sit on top of surface and then add about 1-2 tablespoons of water on top of that just enough to hold pansy in place too much water on top and the pansy will not show through as nice, float these cubes on your summer punch, pansys are edible so no need to worry if they get eaten.
- before planting gladiolus to the garden fill a 5 gallon pail with corms and cover with water and stir in a little lysol disinfectant (use 1 tablespoon for every gallon of water) then let the corms soak for several hours before planting this helps if the corms are harboring insects and or diseases
- use pansys for decorations on cakes, or saladsThis entry is about Flowerlady's variegated sedum planting in the everything grows garden
