Bushi7's Shady shrub garden
Our frontyard is problematic in that 1. it faces northwest and gets the brunt of all the nasty weather, 2. has mature trees that keep the yard in shade, and 3. has clay soil. Sigh. We took out a tree late last summer, getting some more sun in there, and had a landscaping company come through and dig up roots, re-level the lawn, and extend out an existing foundation garden so it now has a few nice curves. We took out overgrown yews, euonymus, and cotoneaster. We left the boxwood and river birch tree.
