Deb's Lilypalooza garden

Someone sent me some Stargazer lilies 3 years ago and I was hooked! I’d never grown any kind of lilies prior to that, but I enjoyed those Stargazers so much that I had to have some in my yard. I cleared a 15×10 plot for a lily garden that fall and have been adding Asiatic and Oriental bulbs (and a few other perennials) each fall ever since. A little unsure about growing lilies, I started with about 25 bulbs. This year I counted 158 lilies in my garden.

I call June and July my Lilypalooza! In June I love the bold colors of the Asiatics. Just as they begin to fade the Orientals start opening and filling my garden with their huge blooms and wonderful fragrance.

My Lilypalooza for this year will soon be over, but I’ve already started looking at garden catalogs and ordering more lily bulbs to plant in the fall.
