Deadheader's Vancouver Island Idea garden

Created on Thursday, 07 Aug 08

WE honeymooned on the West Coast and on Vancouver Island. During our adventures out there we came up with the idea of collecting driftwood, shells and ideas from the ocean area. The island bed in the middle of the yard is actually the shape of Vancouver Island. WE found the coolest piece of driftwood on Long Beach that was the shape of a canoe. Brought that home, hollowed it out, and made it the focal piece of the bed. Ferns, Spirea, various Mosses, Hosta, Tiger Lilies, Lily of the Valley, Sedum, etc are all planted to create the West Coast Foliage look. The frontyard faces north making this type of garden quite simple.
