French Baby Carrots Pesky squirrels
We were really enjoying watching the leaves get so nice and big. But pesky squirrels have been digging them up and around them and I don’t know how to stop them. We have chicken wire on top already, but apparently they are getting through the 2 inch openings. Sigh. Any suggestions?

Little Gem Lettuce Dying: Farewell Little Gems.
These were such prolific lettuces this season. We will definitely want to plant these again next time.

French Baby Carrots Sown: Trying a few more seeds
Since not all my seeds sprouted in my other boxes, I am trying a few more, since there are 2 empty boxes left. Hoping for the best…

bok choy Sown: More seeds sown
Since I still had some extra squares begging for seeds, I decided to try a few more bok choy, since they are sprouting and growing nicely in the other boxes. Fun to hear glee from my kids when they found out they could poke more holes in the soil and can look forward to more dinners with bok choy! Ahh, makes my heart sing.

basil Cooking with basil
This beginning gardener loves to grow basil! It just keeps growing without much help from me. Nothing like basil growing so quickly I’m needing to look up new recipes to use it all. Any suggestions? I’ve done pestos, salads, with couscous, on tomatoes and mozzarella, etc. I’ll take any and all new ideas!

Square Foot Salad from the garden
This is the first time in my life that I’ve been needing to make a salad and can just walk out into the yard and pick the greens I need for the meal. So much fun! My kids love helping harvest the lettuces and are more willing to eat them because they grew them. I believe kids need to know where their food comes from. They appreciate it more, it tastes better, and puts them on a firm road to healthy eating. It brings so much joy for me to watch the girls tending the garden. It’s been a wonderful family activity for all of us.
These little successes help a beginner like me feel like I can keep going!

French Baby Carrots Sprouting: First sprouts!
They are soooo tiny, but there is definitely proof of first sprouts coming out. The kids are so excited to see progress in their plantings!
