2manyhobbies's Shade/Walnut resistant garden

Created on Sunday, 10 Aug 08

This area turned out right by accident. I knew nothing of walnut toxicity when I start planting my various gardens. I did wonder why some things just died out quickly, but never it gave it much thought. I would just plant something else. By pure luck, I put hostas, astilbe, and pachysandra in the area and obviously they took to juglone like ducks to water! I have since really studied the problem, extended the garden area and added hardy geranium and heucera. I tried the new caramel heucera and it is beautiful. Large terra cotta containers filled with sun coleus, begonias, sweet potato vine, and purple shield add color to the shaded area.

Garden Type: Shade | Sun: Partial Sun | Soil: Combination
