Cmagnus's A Winter Greens garden

Created on Thursday, 14 Aug 08

In the interest of adapting to life in the frigid north, I am attempting a winter garden. I’m planting cold-hardy greens in window boxes in a three season room. It is much cheaper than buying, or even constructing, a cold frame. I’m sticking to salad greens, because anything else I can buy frozen.

Wow. A greenhouse tomato is bold. I’m excited to see how yours works out. My partner and I discussed tomatoes at length. Tomatoes are always so tempting to grow, but in the end we decided they’d be our lowest gardening priority because our grocery store has local greenhouse tomatoes year-round. The greens are always from California.

This indoor “greens” garden looks great! You are adapting well to this northern climate in your analysis of available produce and what to grow yourself. There is a bit of San Diego up there on those shelves. Good luck with this garden; hope it’s a smashing success complete with salad dressing recipes posted here.
