Annet's 'Veggie' Raised Bed & Pond garden
This is the main bed, which surrounds the pond. Little by little I’ve nibbled away at the grass, to create more space for veggies, herbs & flowers. This fall I’ll probably attack the final patch of lawn, so that I can plant stuff in it next spring.
I love the way this bed looks now, there’s so much colour and so many different textures and leaves, and pretty much all of it is edible!

Love the plan – I’m going to have to get myself some time and play with these toys. Is the blueberry in a pot? How’s it doing? I am thinking I’d like one of those.

Hi, thanks!
Yes, the blueberry is in a pot. It’s been doing very well, up until this year, when it didn’t bear any fruit. I think I pruned it too heavily last winter.. Well, I won’t touch it this year, and hope for some more fruit this summer. They are incredibly tasty :) You’ll find a picture of it in the Backyard container garden, that’s where all my potted plants are.

One more thing about blueberries…they need an acidic soil, and this is where containers come in handy, because you can stick in them acidic soil, or give them acidic plant feed (this is usually sold as soil/feed for rhondondendrons. So, now that I’ve given this advice, I’ll go and measure the pH in the blueberry container, and try my own advice ;)

Thanks! We all love the penguin :) The purslane is very mild, it’s a nice ‘neutral’ salad leaf

Hi! I wasn’t sure how to reply to the comment you wrote to me, so I decided to reply on your page. You have so many gardens though, it was hard to choose which one to use! How strange though, just yesterday at the gardening center, I bought packets of marigold and nasturtium. I just read ‘The $64 Tomato’ and the author recommended it for salads and such. And, heck, if they can keep the pests away too, then great!

Thanks for coming to my garden and checking it out. I didn’t have much added when you came by though so keep checking back. I am slowly getting all of our plants entered into my profile. LOVE your garden plans. This is our first year of gardening and next year we are going to do some plans like that!

I love the richness and diversity in this garden. So many useful, fragrant and tasty offerings. All of this surrounding a pond. Very lovely.

Thanks so much, that’s so nice to hear!
I’ve included a ‘view from the top’ in my gallery. Not quite as glamorous as some of the close-ups, but it gives you an idea of the layout.

Your garden is beautiful. Waterlillies! Wow! I only wish I could grow those. The “roots” may be cut and stewed with ham and herbs to create an incredibly good soup. Cut them in slices, and they’ll look like wagon wheels. That’s the part you want to wash and cook in a soup. I’ll try to find the recipe if I can. My tribe uses it for a traditional Native American Indian meal (just noticed your location, in case the term wasn’t familiar, y’all may know them as Aboriginal Americans). Good luck on the allotment. I hear in Britain they’ve got a real problem with all the good allotments being paved over for Olympic grounds and people are being given swamp instead. We don’t get allotments in America, that I know of, but there are community gardens in places.
