Hemerocalli 'Mattie Mae Maxwell' Blooming: More pretty Mattie blooms
I have missed getting some pictures of Mattie for a few days and she has been throwing up multiple nice blooms each day. So far, only my large center plant has bloomed, but I did notice a bloom stalk on one of the smaller plants. I think they are doing a lot better now that they are getting watered more often.

Hemerocalli 'Mattie Mae Maxwell' Blooming: back to the normal color
My most recent Mattie blooms have been back to their normal color, so I have no idea what was up with the few pale blooms I had at first. I’m thinking they might have formed when it wasn’t getting quite enough water, but that is just a guess. The Matties seem happier with my new watering program.

Daylily Blooming: still getting the occasional bloom
My ditch lilies are still throwing up the occasional bloom and seem a bit happier since I’ve been watering them more. This photo was actually from 7/5/08, but I just go around to going through a few days of photos tonight.

Daylily 'Chorus Line' Blooming: still a few blooms
‘Chorus Line’ is still blooming and I still see a few buds, so it will keep going for a bit longer. I’m very impressed with how this has done this year, especially compared to ‘Margaret Davis’ on the opposite side. ‘Chorus Line’ is not in full sun and I think being in a bit more shade has helped it this year with the drought.

Boston Fern Ferny is doing better
Thanks to being outside and being on a hopefully better watering routine, Ferny is looking a lot better. It has put out a bunch of new growth and I’m going to cut off some of the totally dead fronds.

Hemerocalli 'Mattie Mae Maxwell' Blooming: pale blooms this year
Mattie has had kind of a rough year so far this year I think. One plant did not come up at all this year and the two smaller plants have looked not that great. I had only been watering them twice a week, but when I started seeing pods drying up and not blooming, I instituted my “daylilies need love too” watering program and have started watering them almost every day. I have been rewarded by seeing some new growth emerging from the base of the plants. The big central plant is currently blooming and has several blooms scapes.
One that that is different this year is the color. It is a very pale, washed out color this year and I’m wondering if the drought has anything to do with that. Not sure what is causing the pale color. I may need to ask my friend the daylily breeder.

Daylily Blooming: more crazy forms!
I had another one of the crazy partially shredded blooms open yesterday (photo 2) and also a different plant bloomed as well. The second plant is a double (photo 1)! I figured these plants would just be plain old boring orange daylilies and instead I’ve got all sorts of crazy things! I’m really happy with these plants and hope they make it with the drought. I’ve started watering them very regularly.
