Almost like fireworks in the garden today!!
Wow…going out in the morning to take photos is always an adventure but this morning I must have had 20 new varieties of clematis opening for the first time this year. It was insane!!
- The daylilies are well on their way coming into show as well and one that I absolutely TREASURE is “Red Resplendence” A friend gave this one to me because she hated the color..she had thousands of daylily varieties and I was blown away by this rich blood red spider variant with deep rich golden eyezone and ribs. It is HuGE….about 10" across on some blooms. I would not want to go a summer without being graced by Red Resplendence’ presence!!!
- The 2 clematis in the pix are both alpine varieties and are just jam packed with bloom pretty much overnight. I love the twisted ends of the purple petals.
- Another of my Abutilons I purchase this spring is "Jackie O’s Lipstick’ besides loving the name I adore the bloom. The calyx is deep reddish black with brilliant bubble gum coral pink blooms
- The final shot is another poppy seedling bloom that opened today. Every blossom is so unique and beautiful. I can’t get enough photos of these beauties!!!
Enjoy the week all!! Happy Gardening

Hi Graffiti,
Do you have the names of your two clematises? I thought I must be a clematis nut having 16 or 17 varieties but it sounds as though you have a lot more. Mine are just beginning, the ‘Polish Spirit’ viticella being the first.

Beautiful pictures. That lily is absolutely beautiful! Don’t you have a problem with lily beetles? They ate all of mine!

Hi you guys..thanks for the comments. Rainymountain, those ones that have no names are breeder’s seedlings that were given to me. Love them so much and have 3 more of his stock that are due to bloom soon. i need to come by your virtual garden and see what you have too!!!!
Silver Charming..the dayliliy (which is what is pictured here) is not a true “lily” but a hemerocallis. Those aweful Lily Beetles feed for the most part on bulb lilies or “true lilies” . Examples would be the Tiger Lily, Asiatic, Oriental…any lily that has growth that resembles a “bottle brush”, topped in a candleabra of blooms is usally a bulb lily.
Hemerocallis or “daylilies” have growth similar to a spider plant radiating out from a rhizome root mass. You should be able to grow daylilies but I would check with your local nursery as to their experience with daylilies and the lily beetle.
An incredible resource for dayliliies is the American Hemerocallis Society
