flight FURIOUS! Something Digs - Day 3 of 4!!!

Monday, 14 Jul 08 (posted about 5 months ago) Sunny 19°C / 67°F

I am furious. For 3 out of 4 days something is digging again in Butter, my garden with the space basil. The space basil is safe, but beans, peas, carrots, leeks and radishes have been destroyed.

I do not know what to do. My main thought is trap the beastie and then kill it. But I doubt I will do that. WHAT THE HELL!!!???

    Hmm.

Looks like it is time to put netting out. I’ve had to cover areas of my garden with netting before. We don’t get wild animals digging often, but neighbours cats are inclined to scrat if there is uncovered soil. The net puts them off because they can’t scratch without getting tangled in it.

That’s awful. Thank god the space basil is safe! (BTW, if you harvest seeds from it, please put me on the list for a swap! Nothing would make me happier than to grow Son of Space Basil. Nothing.)

If you really wanted to get carried away, you could build a cage for the whole bed. I’ve seen some very pretty ones, like this one:

Of course, you’d probably have to cage all your beds, which would make them less accessible and probably less fun for you.

I am going to harvest space basil seeds for sure! You are on the list!

I have not decided what to do yet – but I have a gaggle of chicken wire that I just may use, by making a wall or something. I have no clue. This did not happen the past 2 years…so it’s all new to me.

    Yay for the list!

I wonder what has suddenly attracted whatever it is to your garden. Is one of your neighbors feeding the local bears or something like that?

One of my neighbors is indeed feeding animals…foxes, ‘coons, squirrels – dog biscuits even. She’s trying to get a “wildlife sanctuary” status…we’re in the big city for crying out loud!

‘Mark’ your space corners! my northside galactic “P-deterrent”, when regularly applied, so far seems to do the trick.
