Day 56
This entry is about Katxena's Lemon Squash that
was previously in the Tiny Farm garden.
They weren't kidding!
The seed packet said that this squash is the “shape, size and color” of a lemon. I guess they weren’t kidding! I have 3-4 squash this size that I’m going to harvest tonight and cook up with dinner!

I’ll let you know after dinner tonight! I’m anticipating a regular summer squash taste, like zucchini—the site I bought the seeds from made a point of saying that they don’t taste like lemons. :)

Wow that is amazing… True convergent evolution at play here (probably with the odd hand from a biologist too :)

Good news! I managed to not eat the wrong one!
I picked two of these beauties tonight, cut them in half, rubbed on some olive oil, and grilled them. Sadly, one of the halves skittered away from my tongs, hit the fence and landed face down in a pile of dirt. I briefly considered washing it off and grilling it anyway (and perhaps serving it to my unknowing husband), but then popped it in the compost bin instead.
It was fantastic—juicy, a tiny bit sweet and bursting with squashy goodness. I am officially in love with lemon squash.

You have amazing self control. I would’ve served it to my husband.

hahaha, I would have served it to my husband also. That Lemon Squash is amazing, is that something you are growing in a container?

I just couldn’t bring myself to do it.
I’m growing it in one of my raised beds. I’ve given it 9 square feet, and it really needs the room. Just a small part of the plant is in the dirt though—I think it would do well in a large pot, if it had space around the pot to bush out.

They look and sound good.
I would have washed it off and sliced the face down a little if necessary. :)

That’s a beautiful little squash! I hope you get a lot more like it from your space-hogging plant.
