Tolstoy the toad
It is official, there really is a toad living in my shed.
He/she was sitting there on the same piece of packing as I found him/her last time, looking at me warily.
I had to excavate deep in to the shed to get my sun lounger out, so poor toad has to go back outside for it’s own safety. I didn’t want to drop anything on it.
I called the kids over and we managed to get some mug shots this time. They have decided to christen the toad Tolstoy, even though the moniker might be better used for a butterfly, Tolstoy it is.
Update: Useful information on the common toad

how adorable! I saw my first unzooed toad a few months ago, but I’ve yet to see any in my garden.

You’ll have to rename the shed Toad Hall, then you can write about Tolstoy Toad of Toad Hall adventures – got any Willows close by?

No willows I am afraid, but plenty of mallows. I think the shed needs to be christened Yasnaya Polyana after Tolstoy’s home, he is after all the noblest of toads, not a caddish ruffian like the Toad Hall lot ;-)
My garden is gentrifying nicely.
Sorry Zengirl, I’d love to share, but I don’t think toads do too well in the post…

I think Tolstoy Toad of Yasnaya Polyana sound extremely grand. He’s a lucky toad to have found such a nice home with such considerate neighbours. Long may he reside with you :-)

Ah, that is so cool! I’ve only been lucky to see a few wood frogs hanging about, but not actually living in my garden (right across our alley is a no longer used reservoir that has become a nice little ecosystem with tons of frogs).
