melaco MORE Caterpillars!

Wednesday, 20 Aug 08 (posted about 3 months ago) Sunny 16°C / 60°F

This morning while watering the garden, I came across three caterpillars happily eating my dill. After my run-in with the horn worms (my roma tomatoes are still recovering), I was ready to run get my scissors and cut them in two. But they weren’t quite as big as the horn worms and they didn’t seem to be devastating the dill, so I decided to let them be while I did research. Turns out they are Black Swallowtail caterpillars (aka parsley worms). They turn into pretty butterflies!

I hate to be discriminating on who lives and who dies based on what they turn into (Ugly Huge Moth-DEAD! Beautiful Sweet Butterfly-LIFE!), but that’s the way it is in my garden. They can stay. I don’t really need the dill anyway!
