vivvy Plants that really like wet weather

Wednesday, 20 Aug 08 (posted about 5 months ago) Cloudy 18°C / 64°F

It was a real treat yesterday to have a morning off that was rain free,so I made the most of it.It’s a mystery why some things really look their best in a damp summer. The Japanese anemones I planted two years ago were miserable the first year which was hot and dry, last year they were a bit better but this [very wet] year, well! It looks like garden takeover time. Then I read somewhere that they hate to have dry roots,so no wonder! It’s a pity Ican’t remember which is which,Iused to be awful at keeping records, but Ithink the white one is Prince Jobert[Idon’t know the name of the little fly on it!] and the pink ones are probably Queen Charlotte and September Charm. My fuchsias also love the wet,Splendens, the first one is sprawling aii over the patio. It’s a species fuchsia thats supposed to be frost tender but I find as long as Ithrow a fleece over it in the coldest weather it survives outside. The other one Ithink is called Coachman, it was given to me by a very dear friend who died suddenly last year so it’s precious to me.
