Preparing to prepare
Just bought 9 cu ft of steer manure. Will be buying twice as much soil, though I will have to spend some time researching where to get it. The big department store only had soil that was pre-treated with fertilizer. The packaging all said the same thing – uniquely formulated for annuals, perennials, vegetables, shrubs and trees. How they had the gall to say that was unique is beyond me. I just want to decide for myself what to add to my soil. Not that the daylilies and thyme I have planned will be picky. I’m pretty sure they’ll grow in anything.
By this weekend, I should have it all here. Mr. H thinks I’ve over-estimated how much soil I’ll need. I think I’ve probably underestimated. Anyway, any extra will go in one of the other beds, or one of the four planters I bought for the shady area by the back door. Too much dirt will not be a problem for me. I expect I’ll be ready to plant when the daylilies arrive in September.
