smurfett oh no, aphids!

Thursday, 28 Aug 08 (posted about 3 months ago) Sunny 26°C / 78°F

I found 1 aphid on my lettuce today when I was harvesting its leaves. Oh no! If there is one bug I hate, it’s aphids. Must figure out how to kill it organically and hope it doesn’t multiply!

You can spray them off with a strong jet of water. You can add a squirt of dish soap to a spray bottle of water and spray them. It might be hard with lettuce, but on plants with accessible leaves and fewer cracks, you can even just brush them off. I read somewhere that they’re supposed to move really slow so they have trouble getting back onto the plant if they get brushed too far away. Wherever I read that didn’t explain how they got there in the first place if they’re so slow. In any case, I had some aphids on my beans a while back and methodically brushed them all off and I haven’t seen any since, so it must work.
