More squash on the way
It looks like several of the female squash flowers were successfully fertilized. They’re green and growing, anyway. One of them has turned brown, so I’m thinking it did not get fertilized. One of the new ones looks like a turban/buttercup type thing, the other looks round with a slight point. It might turn into an actual pumpkin, if there’s time.
The remaining turban/buttercup squash looks like it’s about ready to harvest. The vine leading up to it is starting to die, though the leaves around it are still green and perky. Not much has changed with the peanut-shaped squash; I think it might be slowing down.

Do you have any new theories as to where they came from? Do you think they are volunteers from someone else’s garden or compost? They look a little unusual. I wonder if they are unintentional crosses?

They came from our worm compost, which means they’re things we ate. You’re not supposed to grow squash from saved seed because it hybridizes easily; I read somewhere that there had to be no other varieties within half a mile to guarantee open pollenated squash seed would be the same variety as the squash it came from. Since these squash mostly came from the coop, they’re probably all from fairly small local farms, which explains why they’re all hodge-podges.
