Planting Out: Crowns planted into hanging baskets
Planted into two water-well (self-watering) hanging baskets on the day I bought them. My other strawberries have done really well in a self-watering container (were among some of the only plants to survive The Great Christmas Holiday Kill-Off, in fact), so I’m going to go with what works here.
They’re in a premium potting mix, the kind of potting mix that is so expensive I cringe to buy it, but I am learning that it’s worth being lavish with potting mix for things that will live in the same potting mix for a long stretch of months at a time, during the course of which I will expect it to flower & fruit reliably. Bark & crap in a bag doesn’t really cut it there.
Watered in with Seasol.
About half the crowns were showing signs of life, like little leaves or stems starting to emerge from them, the rest still look completely dormant. If about 60% of them survive and go onto leaf out, flower and provide fruit, I will consider it a worthwhile investment.
