BerryMom Mowed Down the Buckwheat Cover Crop

Sunday, 07 Sep 08 (posted about 4 months ago) Sunny 29°C / 85°F

Today my son and I mowed down the buckwheat cover crop that was in the veggie garden where the garlic will go next month. This was the second planting of it this summer and I was hoping to get a third planting in but it seems I do not have the time now. The first planting we tried to just till under but it did not work as our tiller is weak and we have too many rocks in this soil that would jam up the tiller. This time I just decided to mow it down since our lawnmower is a mulching kind. This worked out pretty well and in about another week or so I will turn over the soil by hand.

I can’t wait to get the garlic planted! Homegrown garlic is so good! Now the soil should be much better after planting this cover crop.
