Sprouting: Why are they taking sooo long? More than two months!!
How long does lettuce take to become lettuce!
It has been over two months and it is still ‘sprouting’??
Is this normal? Please take a look at the photos i just uploaded.

Hmmm…. this may be a stupid question but… are you really growing lettuce in rocks? Maybe it doesn’t like the rocks. (I have never grown anything in rocks before.) Or maybe not enough direct sunlight? Or another possibility, are you adding any plant food or fertilizer to the water? I have purposely kept cuttings, for instance, in a holding pattern by not giving any food, only water. You can’t do that indefinitely though, because eventually they need nutrients. Once I was ready for them to grow I added a little bit of plant food to the water (not too concentrated!) and they started growing again.
(Obviously I am no expert!)

Hey Verthandei!
:) no the pebbles are mainly decorative. i lined the glass pot with them, then i put potting mix in the middle, then pebbles on top to minimise water evaporation. they sprouted very fast, then they stalled. i believe they’re sown too closely together with no room for growth. you were right about the plant food. i didn’t feed them before. when i eventually did the solution was ver concetrated it just killed them.
this is largely due to my inexperience. we see food at the supermarket and think they must be growing in abundance.. The quantities fool us into thinking growing must be easy, when it’s not really!
Plants need a lot of care and attention, I realised they need food, shading, regular watering, mulching.. i am still learning!
i eventually had to pull the lettuce out and try to plant something else!
