Fall clean-up
Decided that I had better do something about the Winter garden, so cleaned the windows to improve the amount of light coming through but as the storm windows are on and I daren’t take them off because of their age, it means that only the outside of the storm and the inside windows get cleaned. I will see how good a job I did if the sun shines tomorrow. Took down all the hanging plants, washed the plants (they were very dusty), trimmed off any dead bits and repotted if necessary, and washed their hanging pots. Brought the florescent grow light from the basement and hung it and hung all the hanging pots back up.
Tomorrow I should sort out the plants on the table.

Thanks for the slap-on-the-forehead. I’m planning on bringing a lot of plants in this winter for the first time, and it never occurred to me to clean the windows to increase light. (Especially since it’s a north exposure and will need help.)

Nax, if you had seen the windows washing them was a no-brainer, for one thing my cat walks the windowsill pressing her nose against the window pane – a clearly marked route! All summer I have been thinking that dirty windows filter the light for indoor plants, duh.

Good point. I need to wash the windows in my winter garden. Although maybe I’ll leave them until it’s reliably cool. Who knew dirt could help keep them from baking my plants?
