Weather Whiplash.....but the garden is ignoring Mom Nature
I am getting weather whiplash!!! Anyone in the Portland OR area can relate to me on this. One day the sun is out and lovely warm and garden friendly….the next 5 days go down to almost freezing at night and rain or overcast. This cycle has repeated itself over and over the past 2 months and the poor garden is so confused.
Luckily enough plants are just stubborn enough like me…..and persist through the bizarre rollercoaster ride.
- One beauty that has been a fave of my for beconing in spring is a Tree peony I was given by a friend. (first image) This spectacular 6 foot tall tree is loaded with 27 buds which will open up into dinner plate sized blooms hopefully by the end of the weekend. Will update on those as they mature.
- Another image is my “Negrone” fig. What’s with this plant. I never see a bud or a blossom but in April/May, it sets little olive sized fruits?? Does anyone know about figs??? I’ll post more in a separate planting thread on this funky plant. I do love it!!
- The recycled metal and venetian blind birds are guarding my forgetme nots in the 3rd image. I have so many forget me nots they will never be forgotten that’s for sure!!
- I purchased a very expensive (for me) smaller rhodie this year and boy was it worth the price. Look at these butter yellow blooms!!!!!! Still in the pot. Once it’s done blooming I’ll have to find a perfect place for it. Maybe in a huge cobalt blue pot .
- The last image…I call it “Ivy Envy”...lol! A gigantic Ikea mirror reflects my ivy covered fence in the garden
Have a glorious day everyone!!! Sandra

Thank you Lucykate. They were created by a local recycled artist here in PDX named Tim Tanner. Here is some info on the show I got them at called “Cracked Pots’. It’s a super recycled art show for the garden.
THe wings are made of old venetian blinds!
I think I should maybe post about Cracked Pots in my Garden Art group too. http://www.crackedpots.org/

We don’t have anything like cracked pots locally, which is a shame, because my garden does need cheering up when we have typically grey English weather. Having said that, we are having a heatwave right now, and I’m almost missing the grey gloom ;-)

Speaking of weather whiplash….we had a couple hours of snow today! Luckily, it kept melting as it hit the ground. I had to make a fast dash to get my geranium pots inside before they froze. I really want spring to stay already!

OH NO…not snow!!! That is not welcome this time of year. Hopefully we will all get warmer weather soon. The forecast here is for in the 90’s this weekend!! Geesh if it isn’t one thing it’s something else!

I’m in Longview—up near 100 for a couple of days! but nights this week are falling down into the 50s, still too cold to set out peppers that are taking up room on the floor of my kitchen.
