    Dying: Not happening...

    Posted 10 minutes ago | Overcast 18°C / 64°F

I took the hint after the seed started going mouldy that this experiement wasn’t going anywhere and have finally thrown it out. My mum (who has no interest in gardening) is doing brilliantly with her avocado seed and she’s just about to pot it up – typical.

This entry is about Stonepig's Avocado Plant in the Houseplant garden.

    End of winter, early spring

    Posted about 2 hours ago | Sunny 15°C / 59°F

    End of winter, early spring
It is starting to warm up, and spring is definitely arriving. All the fruit trees are budding up or in flower, and many of the spring bulbs are flowering including daffodils, miniature daffodils, jonquils, spring star flowers, and grape hyancinths. The dutch irises are all well up, but no sign of...

Budding: sprayed for peach leaf curl

    Posted about 4 hours ago | Sunny 16°C / 61°F

Last year the peach tree got peach leaf curl and most of the fruit dropped while it was still underripe, so this year I thought I would spray for peach leaf curl. I sprayed the second week of August, just as the buds were appearing.

This entry is about Tonya's Peach in the Vegetable garden.

    Shoo, bug!

    Posted about 6 hours ago | Overcast 27°C / 81°F

Today, I found my first big pest happily munching one of my basils. It was a beetle with a metallic (bronze-ish) carapace and an attitude. It also reduced the new growth to beetle bite-sized holes. Needless to say, I … squashed it. Made a squishy mass of green innards and fluids on the f...

    Budding: buds appearing on wattle

    Posted about 6 hours ago | Overcast 11°C / 52°F

Buds are just appearing on my scarlet wattle. Most of my other wattles are already flowering, and it will be nice to have a different coloured wattle as all my other wattles are yellow.

This entry is about Tonya's Scarlet blaze wattle in the Container garden.

    Pruning: Pruning dogwood

    Posted about 6 hours ago | Overcast 11°C / 52°F

I was watching gardening australia the other day, and they said to prune the red stemmed dogwood back to the ground at the end of winter each year to promote lots more red stems the next winter. Only the new stems are the brilliant scarlet colour.

This entry is about Tonya's Red stemmed dogwood in the Container garden.

    Time to nip?

    Posted about 7 hours ago | Sunny 28°C / 82°F

    Time to nip?
Oriental Vegetables said that I should nip out growing points to encourage branching. I won’t have enough nippings to make a stir fry, so I’m really torn – should I just nip and make a tiny salad, or wait for more plants to be tall enough for nipping?

This entry is about Soleil's Pea Shoots in the Backyard garden.
