    variegated sedum tips and tidbits

    1 comment 3 thumbs up!

    - do not put tulips and daffodils in the same container when bringing in the house for a bouquet, daffodil sap poisons the water causing other flowers to keel over.
    - use a handful of dog hair for keeping slugs away from developing leaves. spread it over the ground at the base of a plant
    - nothing makes a garden seem smaller than seeing the boundaries
    - plant a potato 4-6 inches from a rose bush to get rid of aphids, it also makes rose bush appear fuller
    - plant chives or garlic near roses to repel aphids
    - make a dried wreath from artemisia – crimson king – take long stems when flexible and put in a pail to hold the shape while drying
    - sprinkle wood ash around hosta to keep slugs away
    - crush egg shells that u have let sit to dry with a rolling pin and sprinkle around hosta to deter slugs
    - make pretty ice cubes for summer punch by freezing ice cube trays 3/4 full of water and freeze just enough that pansy flower which u have washed will sit on top of surface and then add about 1-2 tablespoons of water on top of that just enough to hold pansy in place too much water on top and the pansy will not show through as nice, float these cubes on your summer punch, pansys are edible so no need to worry if they get eaten.
    - before planting gladiolus to the garden fill a 5 gallon pail with corms and cover with water and stir in a little lysol disinfectant (use 1 tablespoon for every gallon of water) then let the corms soak for several hours before planting this helps if the corms are harboring insects and or diseases
    - use pansys for decorations on cakes, or salads
