Edamame Green Soybean Harvesting: And now it's done...

    Overcast 21°C / 69°F

The Edamame are all gone now. It was a fun ride while it lasted, and we got nearly three pounds of beans from our two rows. Enough for a few nights of snacks.

I have to admit that while these were incredibly easy to grow, the yield wasn’t where it should have been to justify the space. I don’t have a ton of garden space and it’s not like the frozen edamame aren’t super-cheap – even at Whole Foods! The fresh are good, but if something else catches my eye next year for the garden, these will likely be the first to be out (and Romaine is already being eyed).

Edamame Green Soybean Fruiting: Tons of beans!

    Overcast 26°C / 79°F

The beans are everywhere – we’re just trying to determine when they’re ready. Most are still rather flat at the moment, but there are definitely signs of plumping. I’m looking forward to the harvest.

Thinking that I’ll be blanching and freezing these for later snacks, but I’m definitely looking forward to fresh from the plant instead of my usual bag o’ frozen edamame.

Edamame Green Soybean Still taking over...

    Cloudy 24°C / 76°F

But no sign of beans yet. Of all the things happening, though, it appears that the Edamame is helping out the peppers that weren’t doing so well. I don’t know why hot chiles seem to enjoy shade, but they do!

Edamame Green Soybean Flowering: They mean to take over...

    Overcast 23°C / 73°F

I believe I have the beginnings of soy beans. Good stuff – I’m amazed at how well these have taken off. I’m always a little more nervous with bigger seeds since it feels like I have less of a chance for them to do well (I know, it makes no sense). Looking forward to some good harvesting!
