Day 1 Dec13
Planting Out: Hope they will be ok
I took advantage of the dry weather yesterday and popped up to my allotment to plant my strawberries. A little late i know, when i ordered them they were supposed to be delivered in oct; they arrived last week. When i arrived the ground and remaining plants (brassicas) were covered in frost and i was in two minds whether to chance planting them. After covering the bed ( which i should of done a couple of weeks back) with compost and manure. I dug a hole with my hand spade and hit a hard part, frost…doh ,silly me. The sensible thing would have been to break up the frost first. Not ideal i know but these should have been planted in october when the soil was warmer, So out came the fork to break it up and then add some more compost. The bed is some-what higher now and hopefully not as cold.. Stupid thing no.2 was i forgot my fleece, thats still sitting in my shed and with more frost forcast i think they will struggle.. Ho hum, only time will tell if they survive or not!
