Jane's mystery shrub

This is a shrub of some sort. It’s growing in full sun in dry soil in my high altitude, arid zone 5 garden. It is about 6 feet tall and 4 feet wide. I didn’t plant this…the former owner did, but I know it’s a mature 10-18 years old. The colorful photo depicts the autumn foilage of this mystery shrub (please disregard the Variegated Dogwood in the foreground). I will also post another photo of this shrub blooming in late Spring.
