Newbee's Gardenia

I bought a gardenia plant and it almost died a home (very hot temp), so i brought it to the office and it has been doing quite well since then.
It suffered from ‘flies’ that infected the root. It blackened the leaves and they dried off and fell. i solved the problem by changing pots and adding fresh compost.
i also musn’t water very frequently. Compost musn’t go soggy.
