Purchased as a total impulse at KMart. I winced as I was doing it- the odds of getting good-quality strawberry crowns in a plastic bag from KMart are quite low, I know, but there they were, priced at $6.95 for 7 crowns, which is a whole lot better than any prices I’ve seen on plants at any nurseries nearby, and close to what I’d expect to pay for mail-order crowns (and the thing with mail-order is that I put it off and put it off- for some reason I can do it with seeds, but with living crowns it scares me).

So, I bought two bags of them. 14 crowns of some generic strawberry variety (how bizarre to purchase a plant that doesn’t even mention cultivar on it!). I have no idea if these are even day-neutral or what. I’m figuring though that since today was the first day of spring, and these were likely set out to tempt people doing their ‘ohmigawd it’s spring!’ garden rush, that these are probably quite recently packed and therefor hopefully not in too bad shape.
