Jane's Sea Lavender
Limonium
This large perennial with leathery, evergreen leaves (the leaves in the photo belong to the salvia next to it) blooms for 2 months. It attracts all manner of cute flying insects, like the fly in this photo. It is fairly compact until it blooms, when the wirey flower stems reach 3+ feet up and out. I have tried staking the stems, but it just looks awkward, so I am resigned to letting the stems fly all over, and giving it the room it deserves. This is yet another plant that is probably approaching it’s 3rd decade of life.
