Spidra's Avocado 'Sharwil'
Persea americana
I’ve grafted this on my seedling avocado in two places. One is a bark graft. It’s located towards the outside. The other is a splice graft to one of the branches. Kona Sharwil is another variety recommended by Julie Frink, CRFG member, volunteer at the UC Riverside South Coast Research Center, and avocado expert.
“‘Sharwil’ is a Mexican and Guatemalan cross and represents more than 57% of the commercial acreage in Hawaii. Its green-skinned fruits weigh 8 to 20 oz and mature in winter and spring….Sharwil’ avocados have small seeds and greenish-yellow flesh with a rich, nutty flavor…. ‘Sharwil’ has green skin when ripe, which is a problem where consumers rely on black skin as a sign of ripeness.”
