Day 272

spidra Spidra's Medlar 'Nottingham'
Mespilus germanica

I obtained a couple scions from CRFG (and Dave’s Garden) member Choke Huckuntod. I tried grafting medlar last year but my landscaper couldn’t help me do it until the scionwood was really dried up. This year I did the grafts myself although I still didn’t take great care of the scion wood. Luckily for me, at least half of the grafts seem to be taking. It’s grafted to ‘Comice’ pear.

This variety is said to be the best tasting. It’s not that easy to get in the States, though, as the few nurseries that carry Medlar tend to carry ’Breda Giant" or others that are a larger size.
