Romaine Lettuce Seeds
Lactuca sativa var. longifolia
“This distinctive romaine or "cos” lettuce has oblong heads with 10-inch tall well-folded light-green leaves. A unique, mildly sweet, crisp taste. Delicious tossed with other greens and perfect for Caesar salads.
Sow seeds outdoors in a sunny to partially shady area in early to mid-spring or mid-summer. In warm climates, sow outdoors fall to early spring. Seeds may also be started indoors 3 to 4 weeks before transplanting outdoors. Place flats in a cool location until seedlings emerge.
Thin seedlings when they are 1 to 2 inches tall to 6 to 12 inches apart. Sow seeds every 3 weeks for a continuous harvest. Use the tasty thinnings in salads. Lettuce thrives in cool weather.
