    2008--Long Skinny at Peace

    Posted about 15 days ago | Cloudy -3°C / 26°F

This year, the long skinny garden performed admirably. I loved my California poppies, as always, and they hardly even got all crazy overgrown. I loved my gorgeous eruptions of purple asters, and they never looked as out of place and wild-weedy as they seemed last year. This garden pretty much ...

    Resolutions

    Posted about 15 days ago | Cloudy -3°C / 26°F

I will NOT be intimidated by the gigantic leaved purple morning glories that overwhelm this area each summer. I will plant delicate beautiful clouds of flowers and reasonable leaved morning glories instead. I will however allow the sunflowers to get as big and ungainly as they like, and let the...

    August

    Posted about 4 months ago | Sunny 23°C / 73°F

Well here it is August and the garden has come a long way, and settled in to its final routine before the frost comes. I had 4 tomato plants damaged by “pesticide drift” from a neighbor. I lost Black Cherry and Golden Jubilee. Galina and Bonny Best had a touch of it but have since ...

    RIP Alaska Hybrid

    Posted about 6 months ago | Sunny 26°C / 78°F

In my enthusiasm I planted these WAY too early…they grew huge and spindly in their little pots, and then were destroyed by wind and sun during the hardening off. Note to self: next year, plant only 3 weeks in advance!

    Out They Go

    Posted about 6 months ago | Sunny 26°C / 78°F

The weather finally cleared up, and it looks like we might be out of the threat of frost for good. I worked hard this weekend to get all my plants outside in their self-watering (and other various) pots. It also meant I had to finish the new ones as I went, so it was a long process. But now ea...

    Sprouts!

    Posted about 6 months ago | Sunny 9°C / 49°F

While the seeds indoors have been going to town, the ones direct seeded outside have been slow. However, I now have 5 healthy sweet peas coming up and I just noticed a seeded morning glory popping up. Notoriously late. I have been soaking and planting moonflowers outside as well in a big old s...

    Hardening Off

    Posted about 6 months ago | Sunny 9°C / 49°F

Well, I’ve been trying for a week+ to get these guys hardened off. Nights like tonight, predicted to be 31 degrees…are hampering my progress. Weds & Thurs are supposed to get down to 34. I don’t trust it so I will probably bring the kids inside. After all, I have been nu...
