This year's failures will drive next year's SUCCESS!!

    Posted about 2 days ago | Overcast 16°C / 60°F | 1 comment

I put the tomatoes out too early!! With the late frost we suffered about a 95% loss. Also, MORE MULCH needed overall! The "yellows" are in full bloom

The "yellows" are in full bloom
Every year my front garden is taken over by the yellow of my heliopsis plants. They are self seeding and I find that every year there are more and more plants. They have even self seeded in the middle of my raspberry bushes.

    My July Garden
I look forward to my July garden. I have many different varieties of daylilies. The Stella D’oros are the first to bloom. I have black-eyed Stellas and regulary ones. I am anticipating the others to bloom shortly.

Carrots, A Novice Broccoli Mishap and Coriander
First of all, I’m excited because I just harvested some small carrots (they were too close together, so I had to pull some). They are quite tasty. :) Also, I’ve had my first true novice gardener mishap. I’ve discovered that my broccoli plants have worms. This was only after acci...

Raised bed is complete and planted

    Posted about 2 months ago

I finished the raised bed retaining wall a couple weeks ago. Despite my enthusiasm, we had to wait for contractors to get back to us to arrange for topsoil delivery. My wall was a bit taller than they expected, so they took the liberty of removing a few stones (which were GLUED in place) and fi...

Week 2 Progress Report- Manwarren Vegetable Garden
Wow! Our garden is off to a great start. The plants are growing up and out really nicely. Damian is having so much fun learning how sun and water work to grow plants. A couple of the banana peppers are ready to be picked. I can almost taste them on a sandwhich right now. Yum! The chili pepper ...

Last week we Manwarren’s (Sarah- aka Mom and Damian age 3.5)broke ground on our very first garden ever! We really didn’t break ground at all actually. We built two 36 square foot garden boxes and filled it with organic gardening soil. We got a late start so we decided to pick out the ...

Just back from the garden. My fingernails are still rimmed with a thin line of black earth…the spring garden, which was very good this year, lush and lovely, is definitely over… So today: I tried to thin & rearrange things in hope of a good summer garden. We’ve had good r...
