    Leaves

    Posted about 17 days ago | Cloudy 2°C / 36°F | 2 comments

The company that owns the building I live in, as well as the one next door, has a crew come in every so often to clear leaves. This is seriously appalling to me, but at the same time, everyone (including home-owners) in the neighbourhood is getting rid of their leaves by putting them at the curb...

    First half shut down

    Posted about 1 months ago | Overcast 21°C / 70°F | 1 comment | 2 thumbs up!

While the forecast is calling for unseasonably warm weather for the next week or so, I felt that the tomato and pepper plants were pretty much done producing for the season, so I spent some time cleaning out the vines/plants last night. As an experiment, instead of digging up the plants, I cut th...

    Brought potted plants inside

    Posted about 2 months ago | Sunny 9°C / 48°F

In anticipation of low temperatures in the mid-30s tonight, I brought all my potted plants inside for the winter. My mother suggested that potted plants should be brought in when lows dip into the 40s, but that happened in mid-July this year!

    Water Crisis
Something tragic happened in my community garden recently. The base of one of our water spigots was damaged, started spouting water, it became necessary to shut off our entire water supply… and no one knows when it’s going to be fixed. So… I live about 5 miles away. I take the...

    Friday's Harvest

    Posted about 3 months ago | Overcast 23°C / 74°F | 1 comment

    Friday's Harvest
Third generation of green beans this summer! Brought to work to share with co-workers. Introduced one person to RAW green beans for the very first time; her mother gardened extensively when she was growing up (in Mississippi), but apparently believed in thoroughly cooking all vegetables before ...

    Green Tomatoes

    Posted about 4 months ago | Sunny 18°C / 64°F | 1 comment

The weather over the last few weeks has been distinctly non-August for Toronto: cold and wet, instead of hot and dry. While the lazy person in me is happy not to have to haul out the watering can every few days, the tomato fiend in me is very unhappy at the result of this weather: green tomatoes...
